Insulation

Naturally heat will flow from warmer to cooler spaces. In the winter, heat flow moves from heated living spaces to adjacent unheated spaces such as garages, basements, attics and even outside of the house. Heat flow also moves indirectly between interior ceilings, walls, and floors, wherever there is a difference in temperature. During the cooling season, heat will also flow from the outdoors to the interior of your home.

Insulation is important to maintain in order to provide resistance to heat flow. About 50-70% of energy consumption in the average American household is used by heating and cooling the home. The leading cause of energy waste in most homes is inadequate insulation or air leakage. There are many benefits to insulating your home:

  • Most importantly, proper insulation will save you and your family money for years to come.
  • Create a comfortable living space by maintaining a uniform temperature throughout the house.
  • Walls, ceilings and floors will be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
  • Help conserve our nation’s precious resources.

When contemplating insulating your home, understand that once the money you save in energy costs pays for the insulation, energy conserved will be money saved and that will be even more important as utility rates continue to rise. Additional insulation also helps to make your home more comfortable whether it is cold or hot outside.

When you are contemplating roof work, it is the ideal time to consider upgrading your attic insulation. It usually does not involve any disturbance to the interior of your home, unlike if it is done at some other time. We can usually access the attic from the roof.

Scott Roofing in Reno has mastered the method of loose fill attic insulation. The advantage of this particular method is that the insulation can be applied over any existing insulation. As always, we only use the highest quality products. We install AttiCat’s® Fiberglas™ insulation. This insulation will not settle, it will maintain the same energy-saving level over time, and it will help keep your home comfortable for years to come. Be sure to ask your estimator if this option would be possible for your home or business.
